The sound of crickets
bouncing off of the leaves
Entranced by their harmony,
they’re stealing my attention like thieves
The dew on the grass
it’s like diamonds, I swear
Glistening in the moonlight,
I just can’t help but stare
There’s beauty all around me
dripping off of the stars
Basking in this late summer night
in awe of this world that is ours
The last birds are singing
their beautiful, rueful goodnights
For they only find their voices
and their songs in the light
