Dance, Baby, Dance

Dinah Might at TABOO

Kick your legs higher, darling
Remember, you must keep time to the tune
Higher and higher your beautiful legs go,
while your kohl-rimmed eyes scan the room

Dance like you’ve never danced before
They’re all here to see you perform
This isn’t just another night at the cabaret, I’m afraid
Tonight is the night you’ve been waiting for

See, he’s out there, somewhere lost in the crowd
You can feel it in the way your skin tingles
Your heart has been on edge since coming out on stage
and your hopes get higher every time the door jingles

“Just one look,” you say to yourself, “Just one glance this way.”
That’s all it will take for him to fall for you, you’re sure
So you fluff your skirts and smile at the crowd,
hoping he’ll see you dance to this melodic overture

Dance, baby, dance like you’ve never danced before
This is your night, you’ll capture him, I swear
He’ll finally be yours to have, to hold, and to devour
After all, how can he resist such a face and body so fair?

But what you don’t realize, honey, is that’s no way to think
It doesn’t matter how quickly you spin or how high you raise your dress
You won’t ever be anything but a disposable prize sought out and won,
Your intricate dance won’t overshadow your beautiful mess
