Battle of Shadows

Sunlight

Don’t look now, lovely
Keep your sapphire eyes shut tight
It’s closing in on you quickly
Through your lids, your world floods white

The door has been opened again
Oh no, it has to be kept closed!
Quick, whisper your last hopeful amen
As the light shines on you, you’re naked and exposed

Darkness has become your way of life
Shrouding every flaw, keeping your secrets
But now it’s become the brutal, revealing knife
Threatening to cut your heart into pieces

See, the light has finally taken over the dark
But that doesn’t mean it’s not fighting still
It’ll always stay with you, it left a lasting mark
Waiting to make it’s long lusted-after kill

Let the light in, darling, please
You need it more than you know
Don’t let the darkness bring you to your knees
It’ll drag you further down if you don’t let go

I recently found this poetry blog, and it is fantastic! This particular poem, entitled “Battle of Shadows”, resonated with me on a deep level. It spoke to me, in the place it seems I have been lately.

  3. This one is great! Light and dark are always conflicting, but the light will always overpower, no matter how hard the dark uses its forces, ever so blinding!
