The Era of Happiness

Freedom illustration

You’re not the same girl you were, you know
You’ve changed in so many beautiful ways
It’s been a year since the fallout
Since that horrible, life-changing day
You wondered if you were going to make it
Staying just alert enough to see them in front of you
It killed you every day to see her face
But the pain was something you were getting used to
See, you knew he wasn’t in love with you anymore
But still you decided to stay
Decided to submit to your fate, it was better than being alone
You were putting yourself through the same hell everyday
Looking on as your husband loved another
Watching them steal embraces and shy glances
They thought you didn’t see… well, they were wrong
You saw, but chose to ignore their not-so-secret romance
See, if you made light of it, you were attacked
It wasn’t worth the fight, that’s what you told yourself
So you looked the other way and went on pretending
Shoving the pain into emptied wine bottles on the shelf
That day started like all the rest at first
Once again, you awoke to her invading your life
Resigning to your fate and trying not to make waves,
You painted on a smile and played the role of the good wife
Little did you know, though, that day would be the end
The end of your marriage, the end of the hurt
You’d be free of their chains and punishment
That day would be your long-awaited new start
The start of your new life, the beginning of a new era
The era of taking care of yourself at last
And in that, you’ve succeeded! You’ve done it!
You’ve made it on your own and you’re never looking back
This year has held it’s trials and hard times
It hasn’t been a smooth ride, that’s for sure
But you’ve grown and flourished into a beauty, my dear
You’ve never felt more vibrant, more secure
Keep it up, continue living your life to the fullest
You’re not letting your fear decide your fate
Stay unafraid and keep your eyes on the prize, lovely
Focus on the many adventures for you that await
